In the last century, Phoenixville was an important manufacturing center. It was the home of the Phoenixville Iron Works, a silk mill and even majolica pottery. The Schuylkill River is one of the reason for the past growth of Phoenixville. French Creek was a source of water power in the past. When the steel mill and other manufacturing left, the town experienced a low point in its history.
Today, Phoenixville is experiencing an incredible renaissance. The downtown has been revitalized with new shops, restaurants and housing the form of townhouse communities within a short walk of the main business area.
One of the attractions is the Colonial Theater, which was featured in the movie,
The Blob. Since 2000 there's been an annual
Blobfest. The Colonial also runs special programs of independent films. There are also special events for children.
Phoenixville also sponsors First Friday, when special events take place and shops remain open. Restaurants host special dinners as well.
In a nutshell, it's a great place to explore whether for eating, living or just a great afternoon's entertainment.
